Brought to India in limited numbers, the new Skoda Octavia vRS marked the return of a car loved by enthusiasts globally to a market which doesn’t really accept cars very easily. Sadly enough, the limited run came to an end, and so did many buyers’ ambitions of getting a brand new performance-focussed Octavia from Skoda. Here’s some respite, though. With the launch (no official date has been announced yet) of the Skoda Octavia RS 245, the Czech brand is all set to lure potential customers right into the Skoda dealerships again.
It’s not that the RS 245 is a surprise, considering Skoda in a brief email conversation accepted looking at the possibility sometime last year. And now with the official confirmation, it’s clear that the new Octavia vRS which will be imported to India (like in the past) will have more power than the car it sort of replaces.
So what is the Octavia RS 245?
The Skoda Octavia RS 245 was introduced as a special, more powerful edition in certain markets when the standard car made slightly less power. Now if you’re planning to buy the petrol-powered Octavia vRS, the 245 PS version is the standard spec. It’s got a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 245 PS and comes with a 7-speed DSG (or a 6-speed manual).
It makes for a great proposition for the Indian market because given its popularity among tuners, the Skoda Octavia vRS is a well-respected car. The launch of an even more powerful version won’t go unnoticed. And for someone looking at using the car as an everyday runabout, too, the Octavia vRS makes great sense. It’s sometimes beyond belief what that chassis can do; the turn-in is sharp and the overall balance just doesn’t falter — even at the racetrack.
The Octavia RS 245’s inclusion in the line up shows that Skoda listens to its customers — and fans. The only possible worry is that with the new Octavia announced at a global stage, would you want to invest in the current vRS or wait awhile for the new one?
Bookings for the car will open next year, and you’ll need to be quick — because there are just 200 units of the car allocated for India. Those interested can register here: https://www.skoda-auto.co.in/aid/octavia-vrs
