Here is the all-new, fourth-generation Skoda OCTAVIA! The new version is bigger in every way and has more room than ever before. On the outside the car looks familiar, a bit like a scaled down superb, which isn’t a bad thing. With nice, crisp, well-defined lines, the new Octavia looks rather striking, doesn’t it! It gets the LED treatment throughout with the headlamps departing from the current split setup to a narrower sleek design. At the rear, the round Skoda badge has been replaced by a bold S K O D A lettering, which looks gimmicky to me.
(Do let us know what you think of it in the comments section below!)
On the powertrain front there are a wide range of options with new 1.5-litre (148 bhp) and a 2.0-litre (187 bhp) petrol units replacing the older 1.4 TSI & 1.8 TSI respectively. For those waiting for the diesels, we should see an updated version of the familiar 2-litre engine. Skoda also announced a plug-in hybrid with 55km of electric-only range, which is a welcome step, but whether this model comes to India remains to be seen. We as CAR GUYS are obviously waiting for the RS models and if the Golf 8 is anything to go by, we have a lot to look forward to!
On the Inside, Skoda has really moved the game forwards with a 10-inch touchscreen with voice and gesture control, a three-zone climate control, new virtual cockpit (with basic, classic and Navigation layouts), head-up display, massage and ventilation functions for the seats and a shift-by-wire gear selector for the DSG models.
Skoda has also been generous with multiple USB-C ports throughout the car and it also features a wireless charging pad in the centre console. Lower variants will get a smaller screen whereas there’s also e-SIM connectivity and Skoda’s very own voice assistant called Laura.
We can expect to see the new Octavia launched in India sometime in late 2020. Skoda might also display the new Octavia in the upcoming Auto Expo in February 2020.
